“So, all this is very interesting, but is there a practical application?”
Lynda-Ross and I have been asked that question so often over the years that we have truly lost count. Even though people have an overwhelmingly positive experience in our “Introduction to Perceptual Style” workshops, it’s a challenge for some folks to know how to apply what they’ve learned in their daily lives.
When people discover Perceptual Style Theory, they gain a new awareness of themselves, which is always validating. However, they often feel that applying their new knowledge in a world of people unaware of the theory or Perceptual Style is difficult.
That leads to a second question we are often asked, “I want to learn more. Do you have a book?”
For years we put the idea of a book on the back burner as we developed and delivered targeted workshops and action guides to help folks learn more about their Perceptual Style. We focused on the practical application of Perceptual Style in specific areas our clients asked us for such as Leadership, Communication, Change, Conflict, Career Planning, and Team Dynamics.
But the book has always been a missing piece of our products and services. So, in the beginning of this year, we decided to make the book a reality.
We are very excited that our book, Unlock the Power of Your Perception: Claim Your Strengths, Recognize the Strengths of Others, Transform Your Life has just completed the editing phase and will be published later this year!
We’ve written this book to help people unlock the power of their natural strengths and begin the process of intentionally using those strengths. It’s filled information and real-life stories that bring Perceptual Style Theory to life.
In the first section, “The Concepts of Perceptual Style Theory”, we provide some history about styles theories in general and Perceptual Style Theory in particular. This section provides a deeper understanding of the seven principles upon which the theory is based. While this information has been available on our website for quite some time, this is the first time we have presented it in a format intended for broader public access.
The second section, “Perceptual Style Defines Your Reality”, contains descriptions of all six Perceptual Styles and explains how they relate theoretically to each other. This includes discussions about Neighbors, Opposites, One-Offs, and Same Styles. While much of this material will be familiar to those of you who have already been introduced to the theory, it contains the keys that unlock everything we do with Perceptual Style, and is at the heart of its practical application.
The third section, “Practical Application”, provides detailed information, examples, and step-by-step guides on how to 1) claim your strengths, 2) recognize the strengths of others, 3) how to use the power of your perception to transform your life. There’s incredible power in this section to help you gain greater confidence, let your strengths shine, and create the success and happiness you envision. You’ll also learn how to mitigate conflicts and communication disconnects with the people who matter in your life.
We are currently working with the cover artist and the formatter. The journey to this point has been fun, a little challenging, and very exciting!
We’ll be sharing some content from the book in upcoming blog posts and on our Facebook Page.
Writing this book has been the culmination of 35 years of working with Perceptual Style Theory in our own business. We’ve loved every minute of that work and now we are excited to bring the power of Perceptual Style Theory to a much wider audience! Stay tuned!
